  • First Dental Appointment in Bethnal Green: A New Patient Guide

New to Bethnal Green or East London? Puresmile Bethnal Green Dental & Implants gives you a new-to-the-area dental checklist, explains how to register and what happens at your first check-up.

    📍 29 Roman Road, Bethnal Green E2 0HU | 🚇 Short Walk from Bethnal Green Station | 📞 020 8980 2890

Moving to a new part of London comes with a long list: council tax, broadband, a new GP and, somewhere near the bottom, a dentist. It’s easy to let that one slide. This guide puts dental care on the checklist and explains how to get started at Puresmile Bethnal Green Dental & Implants on Roman Road, including what happens at your first appointment.

Short answer: Your first appointment is a full dental examination. We’ll go through your health and concerns, check your teeth, gums and mouth, take X-rays only if they’re clinically necessary, explain what we find and agree a plan with you.

    Your New-to-the-Area Dental Checklist

    1. Register. Fill in the “Register as New Patient” form on our private dentist page, or call 020 8980 2890. Let us know if you’re in pain, if you’re nervous, and whether you’d like NHS or private care.

    2. Ask your previous dentist for your records. Copies of recent X-rays and notes can help us decide whether new X-rays are needed. If you can’t get them, don’t worry, as it won’t stop us seeing you.

    3. Decide on NHS or private. You don’t have to decide before you call, and we’ll help (see below).

    4. Plan your route. We’re a short walk from Bethnal Green Underground station, the number 8 bus serves Roman Road, and there’s metered parking on the side streets nearby. We’re open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, and closed on Saturdays.

    5. Gather what you need. Bring:

    • Your medical history and any medication
    • Previous dental records or X-rays, if you have them
    • A note of anything that’s worrying you
    • Proof of NHS exemption, if you’re claiming free treatment
    • A way to pay, for private treatment

    6. Tell us about any worries. If you’re nervous, or it’s been years since your last visit, say so when you book. We won’t judge, and we’ll go at your pace.

What Happens at Your First Appointment

A conversation about your medical and dental history, medication and habits

An examination of your teeth and the soft tissues of your mouth

A gum check, because gum disease is easiest to treat early (see our gum disease page)

Mouth cancer screening, a routine and painless part of the check-up

A check of your bite and jaw joints, including signs of TMJ problems

    X-rays, only if clinically necessary

An explanation of what we’ve found and what your options are

You can ask questions at any point, and nothing happens without your agreement.

NHS or Private: A Quick Guide

NHS care is offered to patients who qualify. It covers examinations, X-rays, fillings, extractions, crowns and dentures, with sedation for suitable patients, charged under the NHS’s standard bands. NHS fees change each April, so please ask us for current figures, and check when you call whether NHS places are available. See our NHS treatment page.

Private care covers more, including cosmetic treatment, Invisalign, implants and hygiene visits. A private extensive examination is currently £70, with full prices on our fees page. For private treatment, you’ll have a consultation, the checks needed, and a tailored treatment plan to take home, with no obligation to go ahead.

Mixing the two. You can have some treatments privately and others on the NHS, but NHS and private care can’t be combined within a single course of treatment.

Spreading the cost. We offer finance plans, and a monthly subscription plan starting from £25 a month, covering check-ups and hygiene appointments among other benefits. Ask us for current details, and we’ll always confirm costs before treatment begins.

    Who Do We See?

Our patients include people who’ve just moved to the area, students and young professionals, families, and people who’ve lived locally for years but never found a dentist they liked. Whichever applies to you, the first visit is the same: a thorough check-up, a clear explanation and a plan.

    After Your First Visit

If you need treatment, we’ll explain it and agree a plan with you. If everything looks healthy, check-ups are generally recommended every six months, though your dentist may suggest a different interval based on your oral health, age and risk factors. If a hygiene visit would help, we’ll tell you (see hygiene appointments). And if you’d like to talk about your smile, we can discuss Invisalign, whitening, bonding or veneers.

    Urgent Problems

If you’re in pain or have broken a tooth, tell us when you call, and we’ll aim to see you as soon as we can. If you have spreading facial swelling, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or feel very unwell, seek urgent medical help through NHS 111 or 999.
