Anyone can be affected by mouth cancer, whether they have their own teeth or not. Mouth cancers are more common in people over 40, particularly men. However, research has shown that mouth cancer is becoming more common in younger patients and in women.
What can cause oral cancer?
Oral cancer is more common among tobacco and alcohol users.
The consumption of alcohol increases the risk of oral cancer and mixed with tobacco use, the risk becomes even greater. Sun exposure without protection can also cause cancer of the lips.
How can mouth cancer be detected early?
Early detection increases success rates so we recommend regular oral and dental check-ups. The earlier the abnormality is detected, the smaller the ulcer is likely to be. Regular dental health checks and yearly oral cancer checks make early detection possible.
As a patient at our practice your dentist will always check for cancer during your regular check-up.
What are the symptoms of oral or mouth cancer?
